I don't have a problem with the ranger as currently implimented.

At level 53 I find:

Against 1 mob (51-55) I'll drop it before it gets to me
Against 2 mobs (51-55) I'll drop the first, almost kill the second andhave to get my sword out to finish it off
Against 3+ mobs (51-55) See 2 above, and after the first 2 mobs it's pure sword work!

This seems to be balanced about right PvE, generally I can almost drop 2 mobs rushing me before they are in melee range.

PvP wise - well that's a whole different kettle of fish and it stinks as much! This game is designed more for RvR (seige) so comparing 1-on-1 PvP is silly, it's really about group tactics. I think many players make a big mistake comparing classes 1-on-1 and thinking they should be "balanced". How do combat-engineers or medics fit in if they must be "balanced" 1-on-1?

I just hope the devs will be very wary about "balancing" classes - it does NOT mean that every class should be the same.

Edit: 1139 in europe bows and crossbows have been prohibitet to use against chistian people. The damage was just "unholy". It was only allowed to use them aginst nonbelievers

But i think the OP was missing the typical fast paced kiting gameplay of rangers.
