I don´t know about you, but i usually don't read what people write in global chat (filled with GOLD SPAMMERS) except LFM's, i only have it open so i can see who is forming groups to take the battles to dungeons/raids.
This is what i do: i have the LFG channel open but very very little people use it and each time the global channel gets red i switch to it to see if someone is forming a group only to find out that people are just talking or some gold spam started, it is a bit frustrating (i know i can subscribe both channels to one window, but i don't want to talk in global or see gold spammers and always "ignoring" them).
So, my request would be for us (players) to start using the chat channel LFG to create groups for dungeons/raids, that way, it would be more appropriate, in my opinion, with less confusion in the global chat window, plus, less confusion in LFG chat (maybe free of global spam for a while also)...
Actually, on Hyrkania, most people did use LFG for LFG and Global as a general chat. Unfortunately, the Fury's low end migrating to Hyrkania after the Bori debacle changed this and Global became a cesspit.
When we got merged into Crom, I was surprised (unpleasantly, mind you!) that the biggest PvE server's community was so anarchic and disorganized. Global again was (and is) a cesspit. LFG is used only by a handful of players and most people use Global for everything.
It is a pity that F2P's do not have access to LFG, since they have to use NPH for that purpose.
I'm not sure where OP is playing for the last two years, but gold sellers are using LFG channel for their spam, too. I agree it's convenient to turn off the global if you don't want to read flaming of our uber pvp'ers and other crap though.
People don't change without an beneficial incentive to change.
If you where to distinguish the lfg/Global with different colour codes by default that might make a difference seeing as the channel would be instantly distinguishable from the rest of the monotone grey.
I'm assuming the majority of players are still running with unedited chat colours.
I am still angry at not having /khitai channel, even though there are /aquilonia, /cimmeria, and /stygia!!! Also, people should use [OOC] (what is the range of the channel?) more when speaking out of character.
