I got some advice ingame to not buy the blue faction gear, but I went ahead and did it anyway just to get that extra armor and +hate.
Gonna try to get the dungeon counterpart of the armorparts, it adds even more armor.
In the end I'll get epics.

Polearm is a blast when going solo. It's alot better damage, I can take out more mobs in less time and have more health left compared to S&B.

S&B is however a aggrobomb, so I might switch around later on if we're really pushing damage.

Don't see any reason not to buy blue faction stuff if you have worse gear. It only depends if you have chance to get some epics quick or if you have time for soloing.

Just be aware of what is dropping in the most popular dungeons, even the blues can be good - f.e. Cavern of Malice has rank 3 LL chest that is comparable to raid T1. If you're a cheapass then just wait for the drop

Tempest vs Juggernaut is an endless debate. My poledancer is mainly collecting dust with really crappy gear (T2/small T3, basic accessories), but she gets along quite fine with overgeared tanks in T3.

Only a matter of preference. Whatever works for you is the right way.

Actually, I'm quite sure there is somewhere a patch note about it

There are some "caps" for all bosses, but for T3 for instance we know it's 50%. You'll take extra damage below this cap. I guess it's certainly lower for T2, and it might be higher for T3.5/T4.

There were some additional notes on the rpg system revamp brought with 1.05 (on the old AoC community site) mentioning armor tresholds for raids, but we never had any numbers. Can you link where it says 50% or something like that?

No, I actually got this value from a raid where someone stated that. I never checked/confirmed this information.

Only thing I found out today is just what you mention, nothing else.

We are removing the system with using heroic rating proficiencies on equipment. We are introducing a system with a similar effect, but we are instead checking against more natural statistics. The new system will only apply to raids.

For a tank being hit by a raid monster, there is a threshold value for armor being checked. If the tank meets or exceeds this value no damage adjustments are done except the normal ones. If the tank does not meet the armor threshold value the damage dealt to him is increased based on the amount of deficiency. This penalty comes in addition to the reduced amount of mitigation caused by having less armor. The value checked does not include contributions from temporary buffs, only from feats and items.

Such checks are also in place for combat rating, spell damage and protection. There is also a special case in which meeting your armor threshold also makes you automatically meet your combat rating threshold, but of course it still does not actually increase your combat rating. The actual threshold values will vary between classes.

Only House of Crom and Paikang District bosses actually need critigation to tank. Except for those, always stick with raid gear (plus a spare protection set unless you're packing T3).

I'm solo tanking HoC (if you can say that about a DT with DS) geared in T2/T3/BD and only my helm and legs are faction. T'ian'an bosses hit really hard - I only healed there, but all tanks always switched to faction gear.

T'ian'an is super-high end though...

Totally outdated a few years back. There is no tank nowadays who wouldn't gain from a mix of raid and faction gear.

No matter the content you tank. Raid gear (T3) is only superior in protection fight.

Conq/DT T1/T2/T3 tier armor sucks balls big time.

Only guardian somehow has something decent, but it's more due to the fact that the guardian would be able to tank half naked than due to the quality of the gear.
