Default AoC using just one CPU core?

I am running AoC on an AM3 x4 CPU, and windows 7.

Other games (Portal 2, Half Life 2) use all 4 cores, but AoC use only one?

I've tried the alt tab to windows, then open Taskmanager and alt-tab back in, and press ctrl alt C. Doesn't work. No change, even after trying lots of times - both while inside game, and in character selection window.

In Taskmanager, the AoC process has Affinity set to use all 4 cores.

Please help!

Yes and it still does i think. The game had an issue back ...well a while back that it would drop to one core only so aocqs has an option to check the situation every 5 seconds and return it back to all cores. However the problem op is having is not this one.
The engine still uses multiple cores poorly. For me the situation got better with the engine patch a while ago but i don't think it's still working as it should or as people are seeing it working in other games. There is currently no way you can help your self with this problem. Then again this problem isn't realy a problem if you don't see some terrible fps's or something. It's just how the game engine works. Nothing you can do about it and nothing funcom seems to want to do about it so just live with it or don't it's up to you.

Default So how many is affected by this?

Thanks to all answers. Going to look into the qs.net solution, although I am a bit skeptical to using relatively obscure 3rd party software...

But:
How many have this issue?

To find out, do the following:
Open Task manager and stretch it sideways a bit, start AoC, then alt+tab or press windows button to see desktop. Are you using more than one Core/thread etc..?

Please share your results and tell us what kind of CPU and OS you have.
If possible, check other games too.

Thanks in advance.

qs.net doesn't work on all machines unfortunately.
Apparently it is an issue with first generation multi-core processors.

Solution:
Ctrl+Shift+Esc (Takes you directly from the game to the taskmanager, whitout extra buttons or clicking)
Set the AoC process to 1 single core, and press ok. If it doesn't stick try again untill it does. When it does, set the affinity to all cores and click OK.

Now loads should be spread more evenly.

Default Adjusting affinity every time?

Thanks a lot, Knott!

That helped. Now the game is running on all 4 cores!

Edit:

Rebooting the machine and / or shutting game down seems to "reset" the Affinity preferences. It seems I have to do the Task manager thing every time I launch game.

Isn't this exactly what aoc QS.net does? change affinity for cores?

Yes. It's what it does. It will not help with the problem i described. If you just do that thing manualy it will look like it evens the load on all cores. There isn't any problem with your game if aocqs doesn't help you. As i said aoc doesn't realy use more than one core and that's a problem with aoc and how they haven't done the multi core support properly.
So if you go and set the cores manualy it will look better but it doesn't work any better than by just doing nothing about it. If you have the old problem that aoc realy drops to one core only then aocqs will help. It does the same thing you would need to do but automaticly so you don't need to do it.

There is no point in asigning the game to more then 2 cores since the code is written for 2 cores.Like blutti said it would only look better in your task manager but you would have no performance increase whatsoever,a placebo effect at most
