This initiative is intended to help creating a living, vibrant and persistent immersion of Hyboria, a node to bring Roleplayers from all four corners of the world together and provide a platform where they can meet, trade tales, goods & information and set out to further adventures. And it is meant to be only the beginning ...

Hyborian Markets take place every Thursday in rotating locations, cycling between the three major city hubs Conarch, Old Tarantia and Khemi.

Typical for Cimmeria, Conarch Village lies in a deep valley surrounded by steep mountains and cut by a cold river running through its center... Its function as a trade node, connecting the civilised realms of western Hyboria to the wild Hinterlands of Cimmeria, makes Conarch probably the most cosmopolitan place in all Cimmeria.... But be aware! Conarch is yet a Cimmerian settlement. - In particular, any use of magic or sorcery is considered an unforgivable crime! The Lion's Market Day

Called the "most princely city of the world's West" by chroniclers far and wide, Tarantia is a sprawling city of wonders and the capitol of Aquilonia. Its skyline is dotted with towers of blue and gold, and many of its buildings are clean and dazzling to behold... Yet, there is far more going on beneath the shining surface of Old Tarantia than simply the rise of admiration and awe. Just because it isn't crawling with muggers and pickpockets on the streets doesn't mean that the city is without a darker element... The famous Lion's Market is the one place where all the splendour and more dubious traits of the "Flower of the West" are culminating. It is said that a wise man can make a fortune here. The Market of Akhet
- Teaser: Khemi -

Sitting on the south shore of the River Styx joining with the Western Sea, Khemi is a stark vision of black walls and looming citadels. It is the priestly capitol of Stygia, making it essentially the most powerful city in the entire nation... The city itself is barred from ocean travelers by the rocky island port of Akhet, or Tortoise Island. It is used as a barrier to the rest of the city proper, buffering infidel foreigners from the “holy city” proper. Always buzzing with visiting travelers, traders and merchants from all over, Akhet is the closest that many foreigners ever get to Khemi itself... Khemi is a massive reminder that the dark god Set truly rules Stygia through the ironclad coils of his powerful clergy. Those who come here, especially those who manage to get beyond Akhet, will find all the pleasures, terrors, and adventures of Stygia lurking in the shadows of Set’s city... Hyborian Markets - Scope & Purpose

The idea of Hyborian Markets is to bring as many Roleplayers together as possible in rotating locations. The basic idea of a Market event itself is neither new nor particular original. In fact, it is the simplicity of the concept that makes it so attractive, because it needs no particular roleplay "skill" to participate. Everybody with good-will and interest in RP can just drop by.

At the same time, on the other end of the scale, there is no possible limit to the roleplay that people can bring to each single Market Day. Mind that not only traders are visiting the Markets. Jugglers and performers are using it as a stage, pick-pockets are scanning the crowd for unwary victims, mercenary bands are recruiting rookies, fortune tellers are promising mountains of gold and prophets of doom preaching to the superstitious...

Last but not least, in a world like Hyboria, markets are simply the most common social event for the majority of people. People go to the market just to meet people. For those who have no special roleplay-ideas at hand, it is still an option to simply drop by to see a crowd. And for those who do have an interest to get any sort of RP going, the Markets provide for a place to meet sufficient numbers of roleplayers who would possibly like to get involved ...

Thus, Hyborian Markets can provide for the broadest possible platform for a multitude of purposes, all serving the one cause of boosting RP on this server:

-> Real Trade and economic RP
Even if you were not a roleplayer at all, you might want to sell your crafts and precious items you found on your adventures. As a matter of fact, there is the trade-auctions. But direct trade can be much more fun and with some skill might even get you the better share of it. While you might limit your sortiment for each individual event, you can still get in contact there with other players who might be also interested in other services you can offer and you can continue your transactions afterwards ...

-> Getting new players interested in RP
A Market is easy to understand and access. Anybody who might have an interest in meeting roleplayers can just drop by. You do neither need a special story of your own nor any particular reason to be there. Thus, it is the perfect event to get those involved who might yet feel shy about RP and just like to give it a try ...

-> Breaking the Language Barrier
Have you ever been on holiday in a country where you didn't speak the local tongue? Ever tried there to discuss with locals about lore & politics? Not so easy, is it? Flirting with a local maiden? Easier, but still language poses an obstacle. Purchase a souvenir to bring back home? Easy as cake, no matter what language you speak. Trade is universal. Everybody understands it. Thus, Hyborian Markets would also provide for a great opportunity to bring the french- and english-speaking RP-communities on Fury closer together. And if you think about it, to hear different languages mixed all around you would even increase the immersion of such an event ...

-> Introduction to local settings & immersion
As a weekly event, Hyborian Markets would take place in a different location each week, rotating between the three major city hubs of Conarch, Tarantia and Khemi. Each different location means a different cultural setting and immersion. RP-guilds with an emphasize on a specific cultural background and/or local habitat can serve as Local Patrons, providing for native folks and local authorities. At he Hyborian Markets you can enjoy the thrill of really feeling as a traveller...

-> Each week something new
Because of the rotating locations and the different goods that RPers might have to trade on different characters, each Hyborian Market event will look different. In Conarch Village you will probably see a lot of Cimmerian Clansfolk hang around; well, they live here, right? Same time, you will hardly see many Cimmerian natives in Khemi. What business would they have there? While certain characters and professions will travel from market to market, others are bound to a certain local setting. This way, Hyborian Markets will strongly differ from static RP-events where you see the same clique of people in the same place every week. It is time for something new ...

-> Get more RP started
This does hardly need any explanation. If Hyborian Markets kicks off, it would be the Darkmoon Faire of AoC. If you have any Roleplay on your mind that needs either an audiance or co-players to join in, this is your weekly opportunity to find a solid crowd gathered. If you have some RP going with your guild or friends, this is a place where you can show and get others involved. As said above: This is only the beginning ...

We need your help!

An initiative like Hyborian Markets can only work as a joined effort of all roleplayers and RP-guilds on Fury. Yes, all of us. Because it is worth it. And the great thing about the scope of this RP is that it wouldn't mean that anybody has to attend the event each week. The rotating locations and multitude of possible reasons you might have to be there or not to be there on any different character make it an offer for everybody to join whenever it pleases them.

Hence, this is what we need:

-> Local Patrons
This is a role to be taken by RP-guilds with a certain cultural scope and background. They will take patronage together for any one of the three different local hubs.

The main care of the Local Patrons would be for the different local immersion, roleplaying natives, providing for a town-crier to spread local news (yes, hinting on other RP-plots you got going maybe ...), helping other (new) RPers IC and ooc to learn about local customs and lore, etc.

-> Traders
Naturally. This is the easiest part of it all. Just decide for a character you want to take to the next Market, fill your inventory and bank with whatever you need, items of materials, and be there in time. The great thing about a Market event is that the market itself needs no greater organisation. Economy happens by itself...

-> Entertainers
Want to roleplay a travelling bard? A theatre group? Dancing girls? Whores?! No problem, the scope of possible professions who would travel from market to market to get their share of earnings from the crowd is endless. Just announce your coming maybe, and you will be eagerly awaited ...

-> More ideas ...

We will use this topic to organise and improve Hyborian Markets as an ongoing event and general RP-Hub.

--> I can commit myself to keeping this main topic updated according to other players' feedback and ideas. I've paid my subscription until spring 2012 and I'm not intending to leave anytime soon, enjoying RP and PvP here far too much.

--> Guilds who are willing to take the role of Local Patrons, please reply to this topic to announce your commitment.

--> Each Market Day will be annouced as a single event using the events forum. Same time, the ever next Market will be updated atop of this topic with a link to the event-topic.

--> Traders, Entertainers and others who want to offer special (RP-)services on any Market Day can use the event topic to announce their attendance.

--> We need translators! - Anybody who is bilingual enough to translate this topic to French, please send me a pm. My own French is too rusty, I'm afraid.

We had to postpone this for another week as we're having a marriage next Thursday it seems Gives us more time for planning and preparing though, I guess.

Hey Arkanaut.

I offer my services and my meagre collection of medium armour blues for trading.

Jan can be a local in Tarantia, a guard in Khemi, having served there for a long time, and obviously a guild member in Conarch. I also have some unguilded lowbie alts that we can use for props, if we need to. I have one guilded lowbie ranger, local to Stygia, that we can use to speak to the lower level guys. (When you are lvl 23, level 80s can be intimidating. ☺)

What is the new date, if it is delayed? 28th? First one in Conarch?
