For me being german player I can u tell that there is a major difference about threads on Fury pvp and Asgard pvp forum.
On the later servers forum nearly all threads/post derail into the
"Whats ganking and whats rp?"-discussion
Same with chat IG if there is like some PK/gank squad "traveling around"...on Fury the reaction is totally different compared to Asgard.
Never been on Asgard, but yes aquilonia had largest gank zergs
Just to note that the risk inherent in a RP - non-RP merge are not limited to disturbing the very act of RP.
Like Canis, I have a demanding day job. Since I have precious little time as it is, I am somewhat picky when it comes to who I spend this time with. This applies to real life, but it applies to MMOs as well. If I get the feeling of being surrounded by people who I do not want to spend time with, I will simply quit the game.
And by the way, this is not a question of RPers being better, more intelligent or more sociable people. I know quite a lot of intelligent people who enjoy flaming and griefing. But I generally prefer not to put up with them.
Never been on Asgard, but yes aquilonia had largest gank zergs
heh, yeah, all those todays RP positive players (Aquilonians in this case) blaming evul PvPers (Furians in this case) from ganking, eating babies etc., they would cry a river.. no, not a river, but a whole ocean, if they had played in the age, when there was actually some healthy population on their server.
"by Mitra, i ´ve got ganked in Noble District by some Zubba from Captain Morgan Society when i refused to pay some fee he kindly asked me for"
"by Set, there are whole raids of people killing themselves in Kheshatta without any backstory"
i´m not a hardcore PvPer only waiting for merges to finally destroy some events, not by far, but all those "doomsday threads" appearing periodically each few months just make me laugh. especially when considering the simple fact, that a vast portion of the foreign RPserver players already moved to Fury/Crom seeking bigger population. there is no doubt, that all those previously distinguished, mature and well behaving gentlemen (and ladies, of course) changed to half-retarded raging and ressganking 12yo kiddos in the single second they´ve clicked on the transfer option in their account managment window.. didn´t they?
(just for the info, i´ve started and have spent 2 years on Aqui and yes, there were retards as well, as there are now on Fury (and as there are probably on every other server because there are retards in RL, too))
I don't think anyone is panicking here. I think what you are seeing is the roleplaying community saying to Funcom that they are not happy about this. I for one, will not be leaving the game this side of the merge and the new system. However, if you had asked me yesterday how long I would carry on playing AoC, I would have said for a long time to come, probably a couple more years. Ask me today and I'll say, I simply don't know now.
I am pretty sure that a role-playing flag will be one of things we implement with that system. That would mean that when the tech is ready, you will be able to flag yourself as 'roleplaying' and then you would also be grouped with similar players in the general world, but take part with others for group activities. However since we haven't finalized the designs there, I am always a little reluctant to say 'definitely'...but the plan right now would be that we will use that system to allow roleplayers to find each other and play together.
I like the sound of this! can the pvpers get an arse-hole tag too?
Will the different communities withing the server also get their own forum (or subforum) so guild recruitement, events and community specific issues can be followed without having to read through all the "non relevant" posts? Our server forum has always been very important for the community feel and I would hate to lose this
Just merge the PvP servers and i promise to RP as well...
gonna RP an RPer killer
Do you see what the RP community worries about?
I like the calm measured response to this from the RP community on both PvE and PvP side. The quoted response by Setut also shows that there are indeed guys who will want to decrease the fun and gameplay of others for no other reason than their own amusement.
Oh, and Setut... you may find that doing that is more difficult than you think. Trust me. :-P
What I don't get is why do the merges, then wait around for the tech to catch up. Surely it's less disruptive to everyone if the tech is devleloped and then the mergers happen.
Why risk so many people leaving due to a rushed merge with Innapropriate servers. If you know a change is going to be disruptive and cause a degree of upset among your customers what you don't do is piss them off and hope to get them back at some unspecified later date.
Call me a doubter, but there are test servers that can be used to test out this wonderful new system on first. I simply dont buy that you need to merge the servers before the technology has been developed. If you need the servers set up in a certain way you have everything lined up and ready to go. Give the customers a timetable to reduce dissatisfaction. E.g
1st June Merge servers
1st July do storage and db changes
1st Aug do nifty tagging system
1st sep f2p
If they slip, they slip but the way it's being done, at least from the outside this looks high risk, especially when dealing with many customers who are on the fence whether to stop paying you or not.
What you do is try to minimise upset and disruption to your customer base. Just ask coke about what happens if you don't
Easy to figure out why they need to do it in stages.
1: Server merges themselves take up about 12 hours or more with each time they've done it. So, a whole work day and then some.
2: Some of the other stuff they described as having an even worse downtime. So maybe add in a couple more days of being down.
3. Without having made sure the merges worked A.OK. they could put all this crap in, but then people have the wrong characters/cities/etc.
4. That would be way too much work all at once. Funcom is made up of human beings, not cyborgs.
What fellow RPers need to do, is stop throwing in the white flag the moment there's a THREAT of potential nimrods. Just look at Clan Koragg. They can stand up and fight, so why can't you do the same, and not just take it/run away? That was a problem on the US servers, instead of fighting back against the idiots, people just left, thus abandoning RP, thus pissing on the community they claimed to love, who then fell apart piece by piece because they had nothing they could do.
