Default Re-installing AOC on a new PC and HDD

Hi,

I'm building a new rig which is going to have a new hard disk as well as my old one. I will also be installing Windows 7 which means I need to reinstall AoC too.

My question is what is the best/fastest why to do this, out of the following possible options:

1) Install original DVD for AOC, then patch up.
2) Re-download the entire AOC from internet.
3) Copy the contents of the AOC program folder from my old HHD to the new one (dunno if this is possible
4) Install original DVD for AOC, then do step 3.

Thanks

You can just copy the conan folder across as is and launch the patcher / game directly with no apparent problems - saves reinstalling (your option 3).

I Stumbled across this solution whilst trying to set up my laptop to play AOC... I copied the AOC folder to a portable usb hard drive with a view to copying the latest updates across to the new AOC install on the laptop (your option 4)... but whilst searching for the install discs, decided to see if it would just 'work' without going through the multi hour install process. So I clicked on the AOC exe whilst it was sitting on the usb hard drive.. and lo, the patcher booted up as normal and 5 mins later I was logged in and running around OT on my laptop :-). I've since used this method to run conan on a dual 32 / 64 bit desktop (it was installed under the 32 OS but wanted to run the 64 bit OS so I could actually run Khitai without crashing :-). It works just fine with no apparant patching / updating problems that the patcher repair options can't deal with / were already there in the game before I copied it across this way :-)

Scott

ps, whilst not exactly the best way to squeeze that last fps out of the game, i was surprised that the game was also quite playable direct from relatively slow the usb powered drive as well.

Best solution. I have still running my first AoC install since launch.

As stated before, option 3 is really best bet. Done it twice so far and can confirm that it works without a hiccup.

Now stop fiddling with hardware and get back into the game. I need someone to blame :P

I, too, am using the same install since launch.
Since then I have done more reformats than I can count, changed hardware, changed OS (from xp32 to win7 64), changed DX version (9->10) etc.
Everything works just fine.

Yup I can confirm that jsut copying the directory and running the launcher works fine...

Sometimes when donig this I have had a small 200mb update to download.. other tiems nothing ??

Either way its a lot faster than re-installing and then re-downlaoding all the updates.

Thanks for all your replies. Its comforting to know it won't take an age to get the game up and running again.

I will be back in game before the end of the week, just in time for my two week break from work

Have missed the game and my guildies very much. Been playing single player RPGs on my xbox and they just don't cut the mustard anymore.
