[Game Master]: log out of the game and reset your GUI folder
[Game Master]: do this by going to your age of conan directory, going into data, and deleteing the GUI Folder


I did this and now the patcher wont even load and i cant play the game..

I restored the folder from the recyle bit back to where it was..

this caused the patcher to apparently patch it again and now it works again..so i guess thats that..


EDIT EDIT no now its broken again


the issue I have is..any time i want to speak in guild channel..I have to actually physically select it from th elist..I cannot type /gu ...just get the error message that it doesnt exist..

please help Funcom..GM couldnt,

It sounds like a bugged preferences file on your computer. Go to the preferences folder for Funcom under the path C:\users\"yourusername"\AppData\Local\
Delete the Funcom folder after you have made a copy of it. Restart the game.

It should work.

Could you provide a little more info? What version of Windows are you using?

For Windows 7 the correct path is:

%userprofile%\appdata\Local\Funcom\Conan\Prefs\

You can copy paste this into the search field you see when you open the start menu.

I'm getting this problem too on my laptop.
I had just made a clean install with Windows 7 (32-bit).
Installed the game but when I launched it I just get
the "Failed to initialize GUI" message.

I have re-installed Age of Conan once already but it still keeps
giving me that message. Checked my video drivers and they are up to date, installed flash and java and made sure they were up to date. Still get the damn error message.

In my most recent attempt to fix this I did what the above poster suggested, deleted the Funcom folder in C:/Users/appdata etc etc etc and now there's a DOS window doing something with a whole bunch of files, hopefully whatever it's doing will fix this mess.

Will keep you all updated.

EDIT:

Just got this message in one of those "report error" windows that popped up while the DOS window was going.

" !i_bIsDefaultData Could not load the default hotkeyfile! (Path: Gui/Default/hotkeys.xml) "

This leads me to believe that there's a file missing from the GUI folder and maybe that's because we all get the error message, or at least why I get it...

I'm gonna copy the GUI folder on this computer (my stationary) and replace the one on the laptop with it... Let's seeeeee what happens..
