Default money making through crafting

Ok i dont understand how someone can make monay through current crafting system in game...

I managed to get my hands on snaketounge bow recepi, and i was chekking out requirements for it, compared prices on trader...

1 snaketounge bow = 4 gold aprox.

Mets required for it is over 4 gold when trying to buy mets off trader... so basicly you need to go out there and gather your own mets, make product and then try to sell it... not sure you can actually make any money out of it considering that you can actually sell does resources stright out without makeing that bow.

Very time consuming... It's easyer and faster to just grind basalt then if you ask me... instead of makeing all these crafting products...

or did i get all of this wrong ??

Quickest way to make money is to sell the matts others need to craft these items.

Crafting in general is a fine line between the cost of making it and what you will get back on the trader. If you recipie is a common drop or if the mats to make it are not only hard to get but expensive to buy, then you will find it tough to make money. As always there is a degree of luck involved here.

But in the end if you want to make money then you need to find ether a base item recipie or a culture recipie that is not common. To do that you need to farm the areas others avoid, Imran ravine, Oasis, Frost Swamps and Halls of the eternal frost. Unless your server is very different to mine then the drops from Aztels and Onyx will be pretty common by now.

Snaketongue is selling around 4g at CROM too, the Whorled leather is basicly a bi-product of farming Basalt/duskm etc. So instead of selling the whorled itself, they craft the bow and sell it. Many recipes do sell at a profit though, and snaketongue can sometimes sell at 6g. The trick to city crafting is to have many recipes and sell the ones that are profitable at the moment, and avoid crafting the unprofitable.

Also buying rares when they're cheap is a good idea, as prices usually go in cycles. When they're high you'll be able to profit if you have a good stack of rares.

Remember a lot of players are young and don't seem to have grasped the concepts of supply, demand and cost. I have got recipes and know how much farming or money it takes to make the items but they (the items) are being under-sold for ridiculously low prices on trader. Go figure.

I like ppl selling to cheap. Buy it and turn it around to the trader again.
But trading is a timeconsuming task. U need to check it at least 3-4 times a day.

sorry to say, its a nice bow and everything, but basically anyone who needs a good bow at lvl80 only has to raid yak 2-3 times before he'll get an epic one. if he's a ranger that's likely to happen in his first raid (3 per raid).

so why pay ANYTHING for a blue bow?

same goes for a decent sword you will be getting first time you kill excorant, or a tos pole etc.

weapons are just not worth investing in.

the only one I can thing of that has a good chance of making a profit is the Lemurian Firestick, because although there is a nice staff reward, the firestick is still the best demo/necro staff you can easily get.

THe only ones in need of blues are those that cant raid due to the silly latency issue that some people get during raids..annoying really..(yes im one of them)

I do agree with what some of you have said about crafted weapons. The quest items available from Yak and BRC beat mots of whats available to buy hands down. With the amount of Pugs going on. It won't take long for even a new level 80 to get one.

Funnily enough some of the much lower level weapons sell for a pretty good price and if some one has a mind to farm epic areas they can make a very decent amount of money very quickly.

But the realy good money below tends to be reserved for hard to get items tied closely to the PVP mini game level caps. If you can grab some level 19 blue legs or chests then your looking at 1g or so each. Same goes for 1H or 2H swords. People park characters at level 19 and do mini games, even the slightest advantage is big at that level.

made maybe 200+ gold on soulstaff back in the pre-lemurian firestick era on our server (recipe bought for 18G, heh) and a-hell-of-a-lot-of-money on Vanaheim Raidbreaker & co. (cultural blades, 1h, 2h axes and 2h sword).. and yes, some money on base items for lemurian firesticks as well

yes, epic weapons are better and now quite easy to get, but there was a large time span, when there was none bow/xbow reward for Yak, when T1 weapons dropped only from Vistrix and PUGs were pretty far from clearing all 3 BRC wings (actually, there was no wing 3 at all)

well, yes, of course there were periods when crafting was MUCH more in demand, but the question was about the NOW.

The NOW is that nearly everyone I see has these easily-gained epics, and tbh I'm not sure that's such a good idea.

Took me ages to collect a full (but mixed) T1-T2 epic armour set for ONE character and by that time I had a collection of about 9-10 epic weapons just sitting unused in my bank on 4-5 characters. after all you only need 1-2 weapons while you need 8 armour pieces (and these are NOT given out as quest rewards).

As to what Abercromb said - that's true as well (although not at those sums, at least not as far as I know). Best thing would be to have lvl19, 39, 59 FULL SET RECIPES dropping somewhere (possibly making it a full 9 piece, including a usable cloak even at those levels, and a ring set and a necklace set) catered for pvp-ers. That would make recipe hunting both popular again and give crafters a good market for those sets (as all self-respecting pvp-ers would prefer looking spiffy in a SET and not a mis-matched armour).
