2 x NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 8700 GT 512MB (SLI)
2 x SEAGATE 160GB 7200RPM SATA

What size should I set my paging file to, to get best performance out of AOC?

Also, if I turn shadows off altogether I get real low FPS. Turn them back on and I get good FPS again, very strange isn't it?

about the pagefile: it's in the guide.
about shadows: you are right, I noticed this as well. The game appears to be "in favor of" certain video options"
I'm sorry, but I'm a real numby when it come to this sort of stuff. I have re-read the guide, but can't work out what I should set my 'swap file' to with 4gb of ram and running windows vista ultimate. Could someone just type down the actual file sizes for me, please?

Would buying another of the same GPU help? Or can we SLI 2 different GPUs together.

And isn't there any other option to solve this problem?

Excellent thread. I will try some of these things out as soon as I get home. I suffer quite badly from stuttering and before I do a fresh XP installation I will try some of these things.

If none of these things works, I'll go buy myself a new mobo/CPU/RAM setup as I suspect that those bits are the bottleneck.

Current rig:
AMD Athlon dual core 4400+
2GB DDR2 RAM
2x WD raptor raid0
Asus 8800GTX 768mb
Windows XP SP2. (SP3 not released in my language yet)

Edit: Would install vista on the new rig btw. From what I can read, AoC seems to run better on that apparently.

Cannot understand how he can get +40FPS compared to mine, the systems are quite equal it seems.

I have 8800gtx in SLi and q6600 @ 3.2ghz i get around 19-45fps ingame,
nowhere have i ever been close to 60, unless i see straight down ^^, on a
single card i cant even play in Tortage, in old Tartania i guess i would get
around 12fps with one card, as i get around 19-22 on the docks there with SLi.

I havent tested with the latest patch tho, but im having my doubts ^^

Thanks Profundido

Are there any observations about the "superfetch" service regarding game performance?

Well I did not read the whole thread. Very nice guide, but one thing is wrong:
If you set the Virtual Memory to 0 on Windows, serveral Applications might not run or crash or have unusual behavior... thats because Windows is build to expect some Virtual Memory.
This cannot be changed. So don't ever set it to 0.

Important question:
I have just bought a laptop. CPU and RAM is topnotch - but i have my doubts with the GFX card. It is a Nvidia NVS 320M - which i have read on several forums is a 8700M. But my concern is that it only got 256mb ram on it. Will it severely decrease my game performance? Will that be the bottleneck?

On several benchmarks this card beat the 8600M by a noticeable scale - but will a 8600M with 512mb ram be a better choice?

I really need to find this out - since i need to return the laptop (if i can) if that is so.
