The game should not do that. And from some experimenting I've done, AoC seem to do a good job at not drawing non-visible stuff.
(Note that morrowind was notoriously bad at that, and that's a big reason why it required so powerful hardware to run smooth).

By the way, I've updated the graphics tweak settings a bit. With the new settings I get generally better FPS than the "Low" setting, and IMO a better picture. You can find the images and settings here.

Edit: Just for reference, my system is : 4gb ram, vista64 sp1, AMD Opteron 180 (dual core 2.4 ghz), GeForce 7800GT 256mb

Terrasque,

I agree that ideally, a game should not do that. It's not that simple however. About wether AOC does that or not it's quite easy to check:

go face a wall and start changing distance and other related sliders and see what happens...

I could even tell you more stuff from the final phases of closed beta but that would be breaking NDA so I'm not going to

Well, my friend runs the game with around 60FPS everything maxxed and 1280*920, his comp:
Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
8800GTX
3GB
Vista 32 bit

I run the game with around 20FPS everything maxxed and 1280*1024, my comp:
E8400 @ 3.0GHz
8800GTS 640mb
4GB
Vista 64 bit

Cannot understand how he can get +40FPS compared to mine, the systems are quite equal it seems.

Hi,

First of all thanks for the awesome topic.

Now on to my question:

My system specs is as follows:

Q6600 2.4ghz
3GB RAM
8800GTS 320mb OC'd
Vista 64bit w/ SP1

At 1440x900, high settings (shadows and textures are around medium), I get 35-40 fps outdoors, but I get stutterings when moving etc. This is a constant lowering of FPS down to 5.

As I read your post, improving my ram to 4gbs would help, but how would the 320mb ram of my GPU effect the performance overall?

Thanks.

Hello,

thanks for a great thread!

As almost everyone in this thread i have big issues with the FPS

i need to run the game in low settings and 1024*764 resolution to get around 20-30FPS if I change anything it drops to 3-6 FPS

I did just bought new stuff for my comp a couple of weeks ago and I really think that I should be able to play better then the minimum standards.

Specs

Windows vista home premium 64bit-SP1

Processor: AMD Phenom Quad 9850 4*2.5ghz
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphiccard: Geforce 8600GT 512MB

You got any ideas?

And how much do I get? 10-20FPS with permanent drops to 2-5FPS which makes it unplayable in these situations. It doesn´t matter, if I pick the high settings, the low settings, change the shader or the resolution. The FPS is always in a range about 10-20 with bad drops down to 2-5.

Even the "RivaTuner Fix" or Driver Cleaner and a new install of 175.16 driver changed something. So I would love to hear some good news about getting higher fps.

Tested Lord of the Rings Online right after AoC and it worked with 50-70FPS in Bree even on higher Details, so it is definitively a problem with AoC.
I was having similar performance to you until I found a solution that was posted on these forums. There is a feature in RivaTuner that re-sets your video driver. This completely transformed my performance - not sure how or why.

My in game performance is not as good as most of you with an 8800 GTS due to my older 939 XP X2 4200 @2700 and 2GB RAM. I am however more than happy with the performance considering it's a MMO and how awesome the game looks.

My current game settings are 1680 x 1050 at high with view distance at about 2300, medium shadows, bloom on, x2 AA, things like grass and player draw distance are set low-ish. I will try turning off bloom to raise performance a bit because at the moment I am getting 17 to 28 in Tortage and 25 to 40 in the Wild Lands. I wish I was not such a graphics obsessive cause I hate turning things down.

I think the stuttering may be due to your 320MB on the card. I only have 2GB RAM and I am surprised that the stuttering is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's about the same for me as LOTRO and allot better than Vanguard.
