I'm using

Vista 32 bit with SP1#
Quad Core 2.4ghz
3gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8400 gs 256mb i think, my dxdiag says 1518mb

Man i've tried everything and i'm reluctant to splash out 100quid on an 8800gtx if i end up with the same problems, surely my video card isnt that bad, i barely get any fps boosts at all when switching to lower settings its ridiculous, i get the same frickin fps in windowed mode wtf
splash out the cash and be happy you did it...

What do you think i should do in order to get this game to run smoothly? I have the lowest video settings ingame, no applications running while playing the game etc. I have already read the whole text at page 1 but im in need of some individual help here .

Thanks in advance guys!
you need more memory and a better video card and your cpu...well 3Ghz alone is not enough information...If that's not hot either I'd get a complete new computer. If it's a latest gen duo-core or quad-core I'd upgrade my pc

Think going from 1gb -> 3gb of ram will help much?
for loading times and stuttering the answer would be yes, for fps...no, it's won't

I seem to have big problems in heavily populated areas where my FPS goes from 50-60+ to 12-18 and I get alot of "spikes" as well, making it almost unplayable in the bigger cities.

I run on "medium" specs with a few things disabled like bloom and shadows.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 2.40Ghz
RAM 2,00 GB
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS (not sure how much memory, where can I check that?)

Now I know my RAM might a bit too little - where can I see the type I already have installed, without opening up my computer?

Thanks in advance!
your hardware is not bad so concerning the fps drop..what OS are you running ? I really advise you to let someone else look at your computer and upgrade the ram for you if you are unsure what to do. It's so easy to mistakenly buy the wrong ram.

There is also a software issue with peformance degrade: Check the lastest addition in the software tips and tricks guide. Might help

Profundido, first of all, thanks for your help and effort!
Second,i'm prolly buyng a a PC from scratch, wich specs should it have (processor speed, amounts of ram, graphic card, etc.) to "effectively" run this game smoothly ?

Thanks a lot in advance

edit : Also wich is the best Operating system (and other eventual programs) recommended to run it?

The thing about Old Tar' is, the number of NPCs and players. My CPU (P4) was flickering along at 80% so even that was not flat out. Remember Funcom said they had removed NPCs from the Border Kingdoms because the server load for running them was a lot more than they realised, and that this reduced playability (ie laaaag). Well, I think the low FPS we are seeing has something to do with the server load and the way the client code 'waits' for information from the server between frames.

Perhaps the program says - I aint gonna draw Fred until I know where he is for sure. I'm just waiting for the server to get back to me.

Further evidence: My GF was downloading Funcom patch and as soon as an NPC fight started my FPS went down to 3-6FPS. This is perfectly reasonable of course, my Ping was 2000ms, but it shows that the speed that the server chucks out NPC details affects the FPS!

My only logical explanation so far.

-------------
P4 on XP32
Nvidia GT9600
4Gb RAM

believe it or not but the game calculates alot more video than what you are really seeing on your screen such as e.g walls behind walls, water and other things in your surroundings even when you do not see them on your screen.

It's indeed your cpu for sure. I don't know them by heart but I reall suggest you play around with the sliders while standing still. It's worth it

Unfortunately for you I fear he's completely right. Change the card and feel why...

ps: the minimum req's and advised optimum req's of this game are nowhere near the truth for running this game smooth...accept it or not but it's what everyone realizes first hand when running the game...including yourself now

heya, thx. I think it's clear in the guide, but here goes in a nutshell what I would advise anyone that considers buying a new computer:

4GB or more memory (peferably 8GB since it's cheap)
Intel Q6000 or up (quadcore processor)
any 8800 series card with at least 512MB on the card or it's future successors (to be released in the next months)
Vista X64 SP1 any edition

It's simply a proven setup for many people for this game and I'm running it myself.

note: You can even go SLI if you want to but you need a mobo that supports it, I went for the Asus Striker Extreme back then when I built my latest pc and that was last year. There is an Asus Striker Extreme II as wel now but I've got not experience with it. Note that the Striker I is not an easy board to get the maximum out. Once it's all configured it's gold but that can be pain if you're not experienced in these issues...wouldn't recommend it to a non tech person tbh
