I must say though, I am tempted to sell this and go for the whole kit as the game looks SOooooo nice.
Don't fall for a 8500 or 8600 card when a simple 8800gt is cheap as hell already as it is. You'll be very pleased when you see a decent 8800 series card (any with 512MB or more memory onboard) run this game

On all of them it's stuttering on 10 FPS as soon as another player is in the vecinity, alone in small, boxed areas I can get over 20-25 FPS. Here are the specs, starting with the "best" one;

Core 2 Duo E4300@Stock Speed(1,80 GHz)
Asus P5N-e SLi
Corsair PC5300 1 GB x 2
Powercolor ATI x1950 Pro 256
Antec Sonata II 500W PSU

Second one is less than 3 years old;

AMD Athlon 64 3000+@Stock speed
Abit KN8 Ultra
PNY PC3200 1 GB x 2
PNY GeForce 7800GT 256
Random Antec case 400W PSU

Third one isn't at my place, but rough specs are;

AMD Sempron
ECS 761GX-M754
PNY PC 3200 1 GB
GeForce 7600 GS
Don't know about the case and PSU

Now, the third system SHOULD run AoC very poorly, but all three systems work very similar when comparing the games, the third one even having just 1 GB RAM!!!

All are run on 20" Widescreen monitors and it makes no difference whatsoever to change resolution to lower settings. everything is on low and still just 10-15 FPS and all the stuttering going on.

Noted also that we play on 100/100 broadband connection, our ping is usually quite good at 50.

But please, tell me what to do, what to change, since I haven't got the money to buy 3 new top notch rigs to play one good game on...

Help is greatly appreciated.

I'm very sorry to bring the bad news to you but all 3 system are way too weak to enjoy this game. Sell all 3 and get 1 decent one imho. The stuttering is due to only 2GB or even *YIKES* 1GB. The low fps is a combination of weak cpu + weak graphics card. You won't get it better on your systems.

damit.

A new laptop is like a new car: there are so many to choose from that one can hold 7 people but won't be the fastest, while another could be the fastest but barely have room for 2 people...buy the right one...

In your case obviously the graphics card is an onboard card with no real gamepower. You're lucky to even be able to start up the game Consider well before buying.

Maybe FunCom would make some optimisation patches for low-end video cards soon ?

I think that AoC demands very good video card (8800GT is the less you need).
7600GT is really slow card for AoC I think ...
You hit the nail my friend!

In your "funcom\age of conan" dir you will find a program called "simpleconfig.exe" If you start it up you get a few options. Running compression/defrag will optimize the games resource database files after adding new data to it through patches. It can make your game run better, especially after much patching. Results are very varied according to the many parameters. As long as you have backed up your funcom dir, It can never hurt to let it run while you sleep. DO BACKUP FIRST !!

many actually. Dell even sells gaming-rigs with 8800series cards on-board. They are all accessible through their website and the specs including the card are listed. Don't see how you could miss it honestly

2 x NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 8700 GT 512MB (SLI)
2 x SEAGATE 160GB 7200RPM SATA

What size should I set my paging file to, to get best performance out of AOC?

Also, if I turn shadows off altogether I get real low FPS. Turn them back on and I get good FPS again, very strange isn't it?
about the pagefile: it's in the guide.
about shadows: you are right, I noticed this as well. The game appears to be "in favor of" certain video options"

Now I get 25-35 FPS with 8x AA. Everything max, 1280x1024 monitor. I will buy a 26" monitor too soon to use them fully, but I would have to turn my AA down then

Also, with Catalyst AI enabled, I get a lot of flickering and visual problems on lots of textures, but turning off Catalyst AI fixes this.

Check out a review and plenty of pictures here if you are interested:

there's not that much difference between those AA options. I would definately not buy a 26" for your setup if you have 25-35 frames right now. I'm afraid the insane resolution of 26" will kill your fps pretty much...let me know the results in case you decide to do it anyway =P

And how much do I get? 10-20FPS with permanent drops to 2-5FPS which makes it unplayable in these situations. It doesn´t matter, if I pick the high settings, the low settings, change the shader or the resolution. The FPS is always in a range about 10-20 with bad drops down to 2-5.

Even the "RivaTuner Fix" or Driver Cleaner and a new install of 175.16 driver changed something. So I would love to hear some good news about getting higher fps.

Tested Lord of the Rings Online right after AoC and it worked with 50-70FPS in Bree even on higher Details, so it is definitively a problem with AoC.

I fear you have a software configuration problem rather than a hardware issue. Your hardware seem ok in fact. Time for a clean format to Vista x64 sp1 with fresh install of the game, hard as it seems it will be worth it in the end.

There is something wrong with my system since i should not be running at this fps with these kind of settings.I am using the latest 175.16 whql drivers from nvidia.

I hope they fix this with the retail cd client because i am not happy at all
Any help?
I notice you don't mention SP1 so I'll assume you don't have it. PLease install it since it's known to fix alot of performance issues with all games under Vista x64. That will be your starting point
