Think going from 1gb -> 3gb of ram will help much?
I don't think it will help much. Your Prosessor and Graphic Card are pretty out-dated, would help if you buy new one.

I don't think the FPS issue is due to the grpahics load, which is why many people report that the sliders are ineffective. I was in Old Tar' with a terrible 12FPS and so I faced a nice simple wall but FPS was still 12. My 9600GT was having an easy time drawing that wall but the game could only squeeze 12FPS!

The thing about Old Tar' is, the number of NPCs and players. My CPU (P4) was flickering along at 80% so even that was not flat out. Remember Funcom said they had removed NPCs from the Border Kingdoms because the server load for running them was a lot more than they realised, and that this reduced playability (ie laaaag). Well, I think the low FPS we are seeing has something to do with the server load and the way the client code 'waits' for information from the server between frames.

Perhaps the program says - I aint gonna draw Fred until I know where he is for sure. I'm just waiting for the server to get back to me.

Further evidence: My GF was downloading Funcom patch and as soon as an NPC fight started my FPS went down to 3-6FPS. This is perfectly reasonable of course, my Ping was 2000ms, but it shows that the speed that the server chucks out NPC details affects the FPS!

My only logical explanation so far.

P4 on XP32
Nvidia GT9600
4Gb RAM

Probably CPU and GPU. You will need a Intel Quad since Intel's are faster and quad will prolly give something. As for GPU wait until ATI releases HD4870 and nvidia GTX280..

i have a pentium D 830 (3.0 ghz, dual core), 2 gb of ram (OCZ's running @ 667 mhz), a nvidia 9800 gx2.

I am experiencing very low FPS (10-20 on medium settings) ingame and im assuming its because of my CPU. Which settings directly reffering to the CPU can i turn lower to improve my fps or is there any way to transfer some of the "jobs" from the CPU to the GPU ?

To use the full 4gb of ram you need vista 64bit right?
Will it use only 3gb of ram if i use it to 32bit Vista?

Is vista recomended to AoC, or XP? Or no big diffrence?

3 gb RAM

Geforce 8400 isnt a gaming card. Its for surfing and multimedia. Get an 8800GT.
