Default Letancy problems

Hey people
I'm one of the(seemingly few) returning players on aoc. I quit the game about 2 months after release due to all the bugs n stuff, mainly hardware issues ect. First off, i am quite impressed and oh so happy to see that ALOT of these issues are done with and fixed.
But my problem now, as back then, is still the latency spikes. And by reading on the US and EU forums, I see that its still a very common problem for all the players. What makes it very bad for me is that I am in south africa and HAVE to use the EU (fury) servers. Which is fine, you'd be amased at how well you can play the game on 600-700ms. So i have taken heart of that and accept the fact that I will play on those latencies. However, it never stays constant like my other online games. At any given moment (several times per minute) my latency would spike up too 2300ms (i'v seen eu players going up to 4000!!!).
My question now is, is there anything being done about this? How many of you still experience the latency spikes. Are there areas where this happens more often than others? Most importantly, what is the developer's stance on this. I could find no developer comments on this issue on any of the eu forums (i mgiht have mislooked, but i found none). IN the U.S forums there was some really diplomatic responses from a GD, which seemed a bit "odd".
Can I see on this thread who of you still have the latency problems with some descriptions included? Maybe even a kind game dev with a word or two of wisdom???
Regards

i did mail them. Just out of curioucity. Are there any known causes for type of problem? I mean besides the obvious userside problems. Something I could look for in the mean while? On the forums in general it seems the problem varies from loaded servers to "busy" hours on the net ect.. Did it get worse after the server merger?
regards

well,

it can be network problem with your ISP, or with Funcom ISP or somewhere between them.

What you can do is check if you are virus free, adware free etc. Other than that you really cannot do anything. There is a thread here where you can see how you can do a tracert to funcom. If you post your results there we can tell you where the problem is

Ok so 3 mails between me and the tech support and its looking very grim indeed. My isp was blamed first, but i proven them wrong. Then a tracert was requested with the amsterdam server ip, which i did and copy pasted info for them. Evidently the issue (according to the tech dude) is the fact that im so far. I figured that much (as stated earlier) that my ping would be high due to this. But this is now also the cause of my ping fluctuations. Which is NOT the case when i play wow and guild wars. But this is the case on AOC. Whats very odd is that in South Africa this game selled by the thousands and were featured in many of the local mags. Now I end up buying and subscribing to something that by all obvious means does NOT work as its supposed to (for us down here in SA). I know this doesn't affect anybody else on the EU forum, but what the hell??

Hello there

I am sorry about your problems concerning lag but there is not much we can do on the forums to help you. You did the right thing by writing to Technical Support and they did answer you and explain where the problem is. I am sorry but as you can imagine we do not have a huge numbers of players from SA that can advise you in forum.

Regards

Tahi
