Hi, if you looking at this i guess you got a problem with Age of Conan. This was created first during the early access but has now been expanded to cover more areas of the game.   1. Black Screen on loading Age of Conan

    There are several known solutions to this so you might have to try a few.

    Solution 1

    OK if you get a blank/black screen, but can hear the sounds when you run Age of Conan follow the following steps for a easy solution;

    1. Goto the folder when Age of Conan is installed and run an application called, SimpleConfig.exe. (program files/funcom)

    2. Next under the 'Graphics' Tab - untick the full screen box and click OK at the bottom.

    3. Restart the game and you should find all is well, while in the game you can goto the settings and change it back to full screen and you should be OK from now on.

    P.S. You generally only need to do this once, Strange but one the game gets working it seems to be okay regardless of if you change it back to the old settings
    Solution 2

    1. Start the Game

    2. Press Left Ctrl + Right Shift + C

    3. A menu appears, goto the Game Options | Shader and click shader 2.0 (even if it's already 'on') .Wait a few seconds and the intro/log in screen should appear
    Solution 3

    Solution 3 generally helps those who have moved the Age of Conan folder since installing, as your InstallInfo.txt is now out of date.

    1. Go to where the game is installed.

    2. Open InstallInfo.txt

    3. Check if it points to where the game is installed (Default : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Funcom\Age of Conan\" no quotes)

    4. Adjust it to where the game is installed, Save the file.

    5. Try reopening SimpleConfig.exe
    Solution 4

    Due to the Shaders on this card you need to use 2.x, however as you cannot get into game to do this, it must be down manually!

    You need show Hidden Files/Folders on. To set it on,
    Go to Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Show Hidden Files

    1. Navigate to

    VISTA (C:\Users\"USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Funcom\Conan\Pr efs)

    XP (C:\Documents and Settings\"USERNAME"\Local Settings\Application Data\Funcom\Conan\Prefs)

    XP, Additional help - Go to your documents file. In that folder there should be a folder called "Appdata" go into it. Go into the "Local" folder. There should be a "Funcom" folder, and in it a "Conan" folder. Go there. Now enter the "Prefs" folder

    2. Either open Pref_1.xml (using Notepad or other Text Editor) and change RenderSetting_ShaderModel to be "0"
    or download this file http://www.mediafire.com/?gwzmjxdcsxh rename your existing pref_1.xml to pref_1backup.xml and place the downloaded pref_1.xml into that folder.

    2.1 Now due to a recent patch some say the game is using Pref_2.xml instead. So once you have corrected / downloaded Pref_1.xml make a copy of that file and place it in that folder, and rename it to Pref_2.xml. This means you should have Pref_1.xml and Pref_2.xml as identical files in the same folder.

    2.2 (Optional) Changing <Value name="FullScreen" value="true" /> to <Value name="FullScreen" value="false" /> will make the game play in windowed mode. This is optional but may help resolve some issues.

    3. The game will now load with 2.x shaders and should work.

    #.1 If the above Pref_1.xml didn't help try this one. http://www.mediafire.com/?19nsdenugbu its settings are a 1280x1024 resolution, full-screen, medium settings (as low can cause issues) and Shader 2.X

    #.2 Note, if the files do not exist, check you have enabled show hidden files/folders. And make sure you are in the correct directory. Many people are missing the Local Settings folder, when navigating through folder.
    If they still do not exist, download a copy from the above download link and add them youself.

    P.S. This only changes the shaders, if the resolution is too high you will need to adjust that either manually in the file or via SimpleConfig.exe first, before editing the shader number.
    Renaming the file to pref_1backup.xml is just so you can keep a backup of your original settings.

  3. How to run Age of Conan at a custom resolution

    You can use resolutions not defined by the game, however they are unsupported so may not work perfectly if at all. But you can at least try.

    To do it, do the following

    This works in Full Screen and Windowed modes.
  4. Directx 10 and Early Access not working

    Although many of the Directx 10 files do ship with the Early Access version of Age of Conan. It does not work. If running any earlier patch the game will fail to load if you try and use Directx 10 via the SimpleConfig.exe.
    On later patches, the game will load if you select Directx 10, however will only load as Directx 9.
    Directx 10 is expected for release, so the retail boxed version of the game on release, should ship with the fully working Directx 10 files.

  1. If all else fail, try these solutions

    There are some fixes that you can try if either your problem is not listed, or these are a general fix to see if it helps an issue.

    Solution 1

Audio Issues
  1. Stuttering audio during the intro videos

    This work for a few people, but the majority still have issues, so these might not help, but you can at least try

    Solution 1

    Under the audio setting in-game select the correct "level of quality" for your audio-card. Generally speaking X-Fi cards should run on 'Maximum Quality'

    Solution 2

    1. Download Bink at http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm and install.

    2. Go to Start-All programs-Bink and smacker-RAD video tools

    3. Browse to Age of Conan/cd_image/movies

    4. Select any of the movies and click "advanced play" button

    5. A confusing screen with loads of options comes up... under the drop down for "blitting style" (whatever that means), select "DirectDraw to Primary Surface".

    6. Click the "Set as Quick" button on the right side and play.

    It now plays all the videos flawlessly for me.

    However, the game now stalls at "downloading patch information" so I have been unable to test the intro scene in the actual game.

    If anyone can get in, please post and let us know if this works.

    Thanks to those who have tried to help on this issue.
    Solution 3

    Double-click the Multimedia or Sounds and Multimedia icon.

    In the Multimedia Properties window select the Audio tab.

    Click the Performance tab and record the location of the Hardware Acceleration slide bar.

    Click the Hardware Acceleration slide bar and keep the mouse button pressed.

    By moving the mouse, slide the indicator needle to None.
    Release the mouse button.

    Click Apply and click OK.

    Close any open windows and launch the program that the sound issue occurred in.
    Solution 4

    Open up the ATi/Nvidia Control panel and disable SLI/Crossfire.

    Expand Interrupt Request (IRQ)

    Now look down the list for your sound card, and once you find it, check its IRQ is not the same as another device, such as a graphics card.

    If it is, it maybe useful to change the IRQ / move the sound card to a different PCI slot on your motherboard
    Solution 6

    This involves say, if you have a 2 speaker setup. Ensure that your sound card is setup for 2 speaker setup, not 5.1 surround sound etc.

Downloading Issues
  1. Slow Downloading of the Early Access Client

    There are 2 known ways to try and help speed up the download.

    Solution 1

  2. Getting "Invalid Patcher Key Arg" error


    As this is affecting a lot of people and there is not definitive solution, as we don't have a clue to what is causing it. It might even be down to the patch server been down, however we don't know when that is as there is no Server Status indicators...

    Solution 1

    shortly, just check whether in your control panel -->Internet options (if you don't see this, go to the upper left corner and enable "classic view") under connections tab, make sure you don't have any strange settings there. If you have a router or a DSL modem using your LAN connection, there should be no entry there (in most cases!) under the list of the Internet services. Than, check the "LAN connection" button and make sure that there is no proxy configured nor any box ticked....

    that was it for me!!!
  3. Missing "setup.exe" file on Early Access

    For Vista users who tried to save AoC in program files, Vista in all its wisdom moves it into some folder so;

    Quote:
    1. Right click the start key and click search then go to advanced search

    2. Type in the folder you created when you launched the downloader initially

    3. Check the "Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files" box

    4. Let it search, it saved it to mine as "C:\Users\Home\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Prog ram Files\Age of Conan"

    5. Make a Desktop Folder named AoC or whatever u want and copy the files from the folder you searched to the new folder on the desktop.

    6. Start the downloader and select that folder from the start. It checks over the files in it, then launches the set-up. (If you have the downloader running saving it to another folder, shut it down and delete the files it set up)
  4. Fix corrupted download files without re-downloading

    Quote:

    Some are reporting that running the Verify/Repair option in the SimpleConfig program (C:\Program Files\Funcom\Age of Conan\SimpleConfig.exe by default), then running the patcher by launching Age of Conan from the desktop or Start Menu icon will make the patcher download any corrupt files from the patch server. This is probably the easiest solution for the less technically-inclined among us.

    New Info from Solid State Networks
    This update from the Funcom Downloader help page at Solid State Networks may be a much easier alternative to my original solution, although I am unable to test it:
    I would like to do a full file check, how do is this done?
    Perform the following steps:
    1. Delete all files located at:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Temp\SolidCache
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Temp\SolidCache
    This process will delete any "SHA1_OF_METAFILE.kick" files.
    2. Launch the downloader and select the directory where the files are located.
    The downloader will now perform a full file check.

    Fixing using the Downloader
    This method worked great for me, your mileage may vary. If you wish to fix the files using the downloader you first need to find out which files are corrupt.

    If you are familiar with using MD5 you will likely find it convenient for finding the corrupted files using that method. See the post by lmollea on page 3 of this thread. Note that your .exe files will not have the same MD5 as those posted if you have the US client.

    Otherwise, there are two ways to find out which files are corrupt:
    A) Pay attention to what files have errors when installing.
    B) If you already installed and can't remember which files had errors:
    Open the RDB folder under where you installed Age of Conan, and change to Details view.
    Under the Size column:
    Each *.rdbdata file should be exactly "1,048,576 KB".
    le.idx file should be exactly "22,760 KB".
    RDBHashIndex.bin should be exactly "13,541 KB".
    If any of these sizes don't match then that file is probably corrupt.

    In the "Age of Conan" folder created by the downloader, delete the corresponding .dat file:
    00.rdbdata: 1.dat (note that the numbers are off by 1)
    01.rdbdata: 2.dat
    02.rdbdata: 3.dat
    03.rdbdata: 4.dat
    04.rdbdata: 5.dat
    05.rdbdata: 6.dat
    06.rdbdata: 7.dat
    07.rdbdata: 8.dat
    08.rdbdata: 9.dat
    09.rdbdata: 10.dat
    10.rdbdata: 11.dat
    11.rdbdata: 12.dat
    12.rdbdata: 13.dat
    13.rdbdata: 14.dat
    14.rdbdata: 15.dat
    15.rdbdata: 16.dat
    16.rdbdata: 17.dat
    17.rdbdata: 18.dat
    18.rdbdata: 19.dat
    19.rdbdata: 20.dat
    20.rdbdata: 21.dat

    Now launch the downloader application again and choose the same directory as the first time you launched the downloader.
    You will get a warning saying some files might be overwritten, this is OK.
    It will scan through all the files and then only download the ones which you deleted, saving you much time.
    Uninstall and reinstall the game and hope you have no/less errors.
    Repeat as necessary. Good luck!

    Other Errors
    If you got an error in the install before it gets to the resource database files then it may be because the downloaded data-xx.exe for your language is corrupt (en for English, fr for French, etc). Try deleting the appropriate data-xx.exe and redownloading it using the method above.
  5. Stuck on "Downloading Patch information"

    If the patcher is stuck saying "Downloading Patch information" , this is due to the patch server been down/offline. There is no fix but wait until Funcom puts the server back online.
  6. Age of Conan Patcher stuck in TaskBar

    There is no 100% fix for this, but you could try the following

    Solution 1

    Quote:
    1.Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager

    2. Click Applications

    3. Select the patcher, right click and press maximize, if it still does not show, try clicking Bring to Front also
    Solution 2

    Quote:
    Try setting both the game and desktop to run at a higher resolution

    Downloading 15GB or more patch

    The patcher may be unable to find files or think they are corrupt/invalid. The reason is not known however funcom advise re-installing the entire game from the disc.

General Issues
  1. The 3GB switch to reduce game crashing

    It seems that AoC often needs more memory than it is allowed, so when taking that bit more the game crashes. This can be avoided by allowing applications to use more memory. A word of warning, a handful of people have had graphical issues and had to turn it off, but its more likely to help than hinder you.

    Quote:
    1. Windows Vista 32-bit go to Start.
    2. Go to "All programs"/ "accessories" click "system symbol" ms dos, CMD
    3. Click with right button and select "execute as administrator"
    4. just write this in cmd: BCDEDIT /Set IncreaseUserVa 3072
    5. Press enter to execute command.
    6. when you have confirmation (Instantly) close the window and restart Windows.

    Removal

    1. If you want to undo this, just go back to step 4 and write /deletevalue increaseuserva
  2. Game Crashes for unknown reasons

    Unfortunatly, if a game crashes for no known reason, then there is no known fix. However listed below will be a list of solutions that have helped people over come game crashes.

    Solution 1

    Quote:
    1) Run SimpleConfig.exe
    2) Click the Graphics Tab
    3) Uncheck FullScreen
    4) Launch ConanPatcher.exe

    1) Run SimpleConfig.exe
    2) Click Verify/Repair
    3) Check Verify Data Integrity
    4) Click OK
    5) Launch ConanPatcher.exe

    Solution: To fix this please delete the following files from your
    install directory:

    shader.cache
    shader.cache.local
    shaders_cache.bin
    Solution 2

    Quote:
    The Paths, referred to below, relate to those found in the Properties of "My Computer" under the Advanced Tab, then Environment Variables.

    It all relates to the order of the folders in your path statement. I was able to fix the problem by moving the %system% references to the end of the path statement. After doing that, I was able to play the game for the first time since the patch on May 27th.

    So, your path currently looks like this:
    %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\Sy stem32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Teleca Shared;D:\QuickTime\QTSystem

    Change it to this:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Teleca Shared;D:\QuickTime\QTSystem;%SystemRoot%\system32 ;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

    As I say, it worked for me. (Although initially I thought I was wasting my time). Good luck.
  3. Allow AgeofConan.exe to skip the patcher

    Go to your age of Conan folder, locate file named localconfig and open it with notepad. From the file remove this string:

    <HttpPatchFolder> AoCLiveEU </HttpPatchFolder>

    Then start game by ageofconan.exe

    This wont allow game to start patcher. However if there will be new patch out you will need to paste string again in order to update.

  4. Out of memory when zoning

    If you get a crash when zoning like this, http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/l...tionFailed.jpg

    It maybe due to not having enough RAM in your machine, for all the textures.

    If running on a lower end system, it is recommend that you reduce your game details to medium.

    If you have 4GB of RAM and run on a 64bit Operating system, you should not run into this problem.

  5. Map and/or mini map no longer working

    If your map goes blank (Grey) or main map no longer functions and places you in the top left of the map constantly, try these. Start with the first solution and work down, these are listed in order of causing least inconvenience.

    Solution 1

    Quote:
    Go into the Interface options from the menu, click on HUD

    1. Uncheck "Enable Minimap" and "Show quest indicators" and click apply

    2. Check "Enable Minimap" and "Show quest indicators" and click apply

    This usually fixes it.
    Solution 2

    Quote:
    Speak to a NPC that gives quests, not a Merchant, it must be a talking NPC
    Solution 3

    Quote:
    Go into the Interface options from the menu, and click Default. This sets everything to default including the map. Obviously if you customised your interface you will need to remake these changes
    Solution 4

    If all else fails, remove all settings manually. This is done by,

    1. Goto the Funcom settings folder

    VISTA (C:\Users\"USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Funcom\Conan\Pr efs)

    XP (C:\Documents and Settings\"USERNAME"\Local Settings\Application Data\Funcom\Conan\Prefs)

    2. Either move all the files and folders to a new folder as a backup, or delete all the files and folders in here. When the game next loads all the files will be rebuilt.
  6. Only 2 emotes in my list

    Took me a week to figure this out, i thought it was an intermittent bug but it is not.

    To do your emotes type in chat,
    /emote and press tab twice (or /e and then tab three times)

    If you only get 2 emotes, burning and pickupitem. This is due to you having your weapon out. Put your weapon away (Default Key : \) and try again, you should now have a full list.
