Your team also have to do enough dps, you can't place too much crap in the circle. Use dots wisely to avoid healing the boss at 75/50/25% and always hit the same vein (not everyone a different one) to break their healing effect faster.

In addition to what has been said already:

The boundary of the octagon and the dot boundary do not coincide! On the left (facing the boss, inital position) the dot boundary is slightly outside and on the right slightly inside the octagon's boundary.
