Default black miniMAP

hello all,
im having this problem when i enter a raid/dungeon. i know there are NO maps inside the dungeons but i dont even see the others of the party, or quest objectives. only my arrow in centre inside a small circle.
until now i thought thats the way it is. but friends from the game informed while playing and i was lost in the dungeon "follow our blue arrows in minimap"... and realized im the only one having this problem.
screenshot included. any thoughts?

thanx

I assume you are running Windwos XP, Vista or Win 7 32bit OS?

Problem is that 32bit OS has 2gb RAM for applications and as AoC is shiny and very demanding for almost any hardware it means that memory usage goes close or bit over 2gb of RAM. That causes problems in 32bit OS system. 64bit systems not have this limitation.

Here is something what you can do if you refuse to move 21th Century. You can command Windows use 3gb RAM for applications and 1gb for itself. This trick usually works and is easy to switch off if not working. 3gb /switch Guide

ONLY works if you have 4gb RAM or more (silly you if you have more in 32bit system!)

i searched arround b4 posting here for a solution.. so i allready done the 3gb switch. for some reason the game run a little better without the usally crashes.(sometimes it crushes on multiple alt-tabs).
i thought with my system aoc would run smoothly on high graphics, but no. so i decreace some to medium and run in dx9 for a few more fps(again, after many changes and web suggestions).
u still believe u should change my OS to 64bit, with only 4gb ram?

pc config is:
intel core 2 duo e8400, asus p5k premium wi/fi-ap, asus EAH4870 dk 1gb, 4gb ram(ozc1000mhz), hitachi HDS721050CLA363 ATA/500gb,
akasa 600watt, win7 sp1.

Try also DX10 as its more better optimized than DX9. DX10 should work about good as DX9 when you tweak settings. DX10 has better memory management.

You can run 64bit operating system with 4gb ram, even only 1gb of ram! 64bit is not heavier, its exactly same as the 32bit version performance wise (actually now even better when most application developing is aimed for it). There is no limitation of 32bit memory. So with 64bit OS you have more available ram for applications as the cap is not 2gb as with 32bit.

Oh and you can do the change for free with your current Windows Key. Only what you need is the 64bit media, maybe you have it already? Or borrow it from friend or just download it from internet. The key is only what you paid for so Microsoft is not interested where you get the actual media.

Remember that you need to have same edition from the Windows in 64bit as you have 32bit so the key fits. Check that you get media where is example Home Premium or if your original media is OEM, example Dell then you need to get Dell Oem Home Premium 64bit.

Hope this helps.

Alt + tab crash is dx9 problem. So by going to dx10 client you will eliminate this problem.

Your system for playing age of conan is ancient. If you realy would like to play the game with good settings get something that's not ~5 years old. Anything less than the almost best runs aoc less than well but the somewhat recent engine fixes have made the game run better so i would have to guess that even a good computer would do for aoc these days.

64bit operating system is a must these days as already said here as well the programs are mostly made for 64bit systems.

So at least upgrade to 64bit and if you aren't happy how the game is running i suggest you get a decent new computer as well to be able to enjoy the great graphics in the game.
