The circle of the years and turns and turns again, and so once more comes to us the celebration of Lunastal! The land is as warm as it will be, hunting is plentiful, cattle and poultry grow fat and nights are easy on the sleepers.
Lunastal is here once again, and we will celebrate all that is good and all that is life. The young will compete and the old will watch, for during the Festival, no worry is to remain in our hearts!
OOC
Another Festival? Damn time passes fast. This is already the 3rd Festival of Lunastal I'll be organising as we pass the 2 year mark since the first event. Oh well, forget the nostalgia, it's all business as usual ;D.
What is the Festival of Lunatal?
The Festivals are held every three months and are based on Celtic/Gaelic celebrations marking the passing of seasons. In the lore Cimmerians are the ancestors of Gaels, so it's reasonable to assume that they would have similar celebrations - especially since most cultures did celebrate seasonal changes.
The more common name for Lunastal is Lughnasadh - I'm using the modern gaelic version instead, since there is no god Lugh in Hyborian lore.
Why should I come? What will be going on?
With the Festival events we always aimed for pre-planned activites involving all-comers, mixed with social RP. The previous events attracted huge crowds and sparked lots of roleplaying.
Apart from a big gathering of roleplayers, there will also be many different competitions and contests with rewards, including:
- A 'hunting' game
- Eich Imir tournament
- Bones and Blood dice game
- RP Market (to be confirmed)
...Eich Imir? Now what's THAT?
Eich Imir is a mounted game, where opponents ride around, trying to knock each other off their mounts. The last man, or team, left on their mount[s] wins. No ranged weaponry, armoured horses or magic are allowed. Summer two years ago has seen a huge battle between Cimmerians on one side, and Vanir with mercenaries on the other (an actual RP PvP event). During that battle some Cimmerians charged the rear Vanir ranks with horses and mammoth - so IC this tournament during Lunastal is meant to commemorate that battle.
Bones and Blood
This is a simple, fun IC dice game over from the US Clan Elkhorn. It plays much like blackjack - players roll dice until they're as close to 21 as they think they will get. There are some differences. You can only 'claim' a number if it's 16 or higher, and if two players get 21 one of them needs to say 'yield' or they have to duel over the win.
Each round is proceeded by betting - the player who won the last round decides on the stakes. The stakes determine how much each dice roll 'costs'. For instance, if the stake is 5 silver then all the players pay that amount in and then roll. If the player needs more rolls, he has to chip in another 5 silver every time.
Who's invited?
Everybody, no exceptions. All we ask is that your remain IC during the event and refrain from bringing demo/necro pets, or using any form of magic.
When and where?
Brandoc Village, Lacheish Plains, Tuesday the 3nd of August, 20:00 UK/21:00 CET. The specific instance will be announced on the day.
In closing
I'm getting help in organising this event from Vredmoy (CK), Teleia and Tielan (both from Clan Fearghal), and hopefully the guys and gals of Blackthorn as well. However, if you want suggestions, ideas or questions it's best to contact me directly, either here or in-game.
Hope to see you lot there.
