Simple question to clarify things for a newbie ranger - do armour items that have +bow stats only work with bows or are x-bows included in that as well?

only bow. there is a different stat called xbow

You can see different stats on equipment effecting weapons. like:
- ranged weapons
- melee weaopns
- Bow
- Xbow
- no remark ( works for all)
Haven't seen them for thrown weapons (other than ranged)

That's great thanks very much for the heads up I was thinking that that would be the case but hoping it wasn't as I dinged 40 not so long ago and so far have yet to see any xbow statted gear drop
Has anyone got anysuggestions of where to grind to try and get some (for l43-50)?

Sanctuary of the burning souls gives good 38 - 40 equipment as does black castle. Most equipment just have a general modifier that works with all weapons.
