I am coming back to AoC. I was one of those who started AoC back at lauch, late May (24?) of 2008, with great expectation.
I started with an Assassin (but gave also a quick try to HoX, Barbarian and ToS) and brought it to lvl47.
Then I quit after only 3 months for several reasons.
Now I see that a lot has changend (where are the two Assassin's stances??? I can't find them anymore... ) and I would like to give it a second chance.
But I am not going to play my old 'sin, I want to start from scratch since I don't remember anything at all of the game (except that I love the combat system!!!).
So I need to start a new toon, but I am not sure which class to pick.
I will play on a PvP server (Aquilonia), mostly in Solo (since I will play only from time to time, due to RL issues).
I hate gankers (whine more!!!!!) but I am perfectly aware that in a PvP server you have to cope with them.
In all the other mmorpg I played I have been mostly melee, as casters (or ranged classes in general) have always been too distant from my play-style.
So... what class do you think would be the best for me?
(just to give you a few more hints:
In WoW I played a rogue and an enhancement shaman
In Lotro I played a guardian
In Aion I played a chanter)
Right now I am starting an assassin (Bagasha, lvl 12) but I see it is still quite weak with multiple mobs.
I think the stances have been replaced by the first 5 feats in each tree essentially.
The current flavours of the month, since they have had their revamp, are Bear Shamans (melee healer and great PVP), Conqueror (the DPS style tank), Assassin (rediculous revamp made them mega overpowered) and Demonologists, Tempests of Set, Necromancers are still as good as they were at launch. Dark Templars had an excellent revamp for tanking and PvE but require a lot of skill to be good for PvP, however it is doable.
Guardians are currently very balanced (from my view, they may disagree) and are very good in PvP and PvE.
Rangers are still excellent range DPS, and very good in PvP to counter Sins and clothies and they do use the combat system to deliver their combos.
If you enjoy your Assassin, stick with it as at 80 their pvp and single target DPS are insane - but I think likely to be nerfed as they really are too much at the moment.
I would anticipate that the next classes to get a revamp will be Barbarian, Herald of Xotli and Priest of Mitra. All need them badly.
Following that and the classes you played previously, you might enjoy any of the soldiers, particularly conqueror from the buffs, tanking and 2 hand style, Assassin or Bear Shaman.
All of them use the combat system and are in great shape at the moment.
